EcoSpex will facilitate collaborative and company-specific research agendas for businesses through partnerships with research institutions. Businesses will pay for collaborative research through research sponsorships alongside other industry partners. Businesses will pay for facilitation and project management consulting services to support company-specific research projects on a fee-for-service basis.

Market intelligence

EcoSpex will serve as a conduit to market information on green building product specification, product usage, and market demand. Through collection of user data, EcoSpex will provide much-needed insights into the products, technologies and specification habits of the green building sector. No such resource is currently available in Canada.

Collaborative research

EcoSpex drives progressive research and knowledge transfer through collaboration with leading businesses and institutions. EcoSpex will position leading edge research in delivering a province-wide Green Building Products Initiative, a program designed to make Ontario the centre for the development and manufacturing of green products. The Green Building Products Initiative will encourage interaction among regional businesses and organizations involved in the development and manufacture of green building products. 

This initiative is a unique approach that links the development of green buildings with the product manufacturing base in Ontario. In addition, the program seeks to define new opportunities to raise awareness of the green building marketplace, increase economic activity and allow for job creation and training.

BIM

EcoSpex’s next phase of research and development includes the integration of Revit which provides users with a 3D modeling tool to access their verified technical and sustainable product information. Our goal is to extend the EcoSpex functionality to allow for BIM across the full lifecycle of the built environment for Architecture, Engineering and Construction (AEC) professionals in the building and infrastructure industries. Our goal is to drive higher levels of productivity in the building design, infrastructure and construction industries by extending the accessibility to products and technologies both in the office as well as out in the field.
